Guido Galli, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Nuclear Medicine and Director of the Institute of Nuclear Medicine, Catholic University; and Chief of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the "A. Gemelli" Teaching Hospital, Rome, Italy. Dr. Galli was born in Castellanza in 1927. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in February, 1954 (summa cum laude), and in 1956 he completed his residency in Radiology (summa cum laude). He received a Ph.D. in Radiology in 1964 and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Medicine in 1970. From 1958 to 1964 he worked as an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Radiology of the State University in Milan, and from 1964 to 1970 as an Associate Professor in the Institute of Radiology of the Catholic University in Rome. Since 1970 he has been directing the Institute of Nuclear Medicine of the "A. Gemelli" Teaching Hospital. He became full Professor in Nuclear Medicine in 1980. He is a member of several scientific societies: Societá Italiana di Biologia e Medicina Nucleare, SIBMN; Societá Italiana di Radiología e Medicina Nucleare, SIRMN; European Nuclear Medicine Society, ENMS; and the Clinical Ligand Assay Society. He is a member of the Council of the SIRMN (Section of Nuclear Medicine and Section of Computer Sciences), and he has been a member of the Council of SIBMN. Dr. Galli has published over 150 research papers in the following fields: radionuclide therapy using unsealed sources introduced via lymphatic vessels; radionuclide studies of CNS with original contributions on the diagnosis of hydrocephalus; radionuclide studies of hepatocyte function in chronic hepatitis and familial jaundices; and the use of computers in nuclear medicine.
