Haibo Wang, graduated from the Department of Economics, Fudan University in 1953. Later he sought further study in the Department of Economics, Renmin University of China and graduated in 1956. From 1956 to 1975, he worked as a teacher in the Department of Political Economics, Renmin University of China and University of Science and Technology of China. He also served as an assistant, a lecturer and chairman in the Teaching and Research Group of Political Economics.

From 1975 to 1981, he worked as an editor in the Economic Editorial Room of People's Publishing House.

From 1981 to 1995, he served as an associate researcher and research fellow at the Institute of Industrial Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. At the same time, he was a supervisor for postgraduates and doctoral students at the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

From 1987 to 1991, he was the vice president of Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
