Description

The prevailing and future global economic scenario puts forward the importance of conservation of materials. The behavior of materials at elevated temperature is gaining technological importance. It is a problem that mankind has to face and solve it from the very beginning of his existence. Understanding the behavior of metals at elevated temperature and especially their corrosion behavior became an object of scientific investigation since long. Degradation of materials by virtue of hot corrosion has been reported to be a precarious issue in various elevated temperature applications as in steam boilers, I.C. engines, gas turbines as well as in industrial waste incinerators. The replacement of affected materials will be difficult and cost effective issue. Out of the total loss due to corrosion, twenty five percent of loss can be saved by using pro-active strategies and protecting the system with the help of various protective coatings.
